CREDITON Town Band present a Concert to celebrate the musical life of past Musical Director Chris Taylor who sadly passed away in late March 2024.
The concert will take place on Saturday, October 11, starting at 2.30pm at Crediton Parish Church (EX17 2AQ).
The Band will be playing a full programme of music that were Chris’s favourites and are sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Admission to the concert will be free of charge but donations will be welcomed for the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity.
Chris was a highly respected euphonium player, band trainer and Musical Director and was well-known throughout the brass band world.
He was Crediton Town Band Musical Director from early 2023 until his untimely death.
It was his second time as Crediton MD, previously taking on the role in the 1990’s.
In earlier days Chris joined the Army and became principal euphonium player in the Royal Engineers Staff Band.
A move to The Royal Military Academy Band at Sandhurst enabled him to develop more teaching in and around Surrey and Hampshire, as well as performing at the famous Sovereign’s Parade at the Academy on many occasions.
After leaving the Services, Chris took a job with Cornwall County Council in the 80’s and following this was 30 years as a Brass specialist teacher at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, meant that he had been teaching music together with Band Coaching for over 50 years.
Refreshments will be served after the Concert on October 11 in the Boniface Centre.
On Sunday, November 9, the Band will play for the Remembrance Service at Crediton Parish Church and wreath laying ceremony at Crediton War Memorial.
The band rehearses on a Thursday evening at Hayward’s Primary School hall, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
