CHERITON Fitzpaine Flower Club held its Spring Show on April 1 which was very well attended by villagers and visitors from around the area.
The spring flowers made a colourful display on entering the hall, and the Floral Art exhibits were beautifully presented. The Brownies each created a miniature garden in a teacup which were all so pretty that it was difficult for the judge to pick a winner.
Also on show were photographs taken by club members and non-members, a judged cookery section of cakes and scones, handicrafts and children’s drawings.
Chairman, Paula Mossman announced the winners of the judged classes and Sarah Tricks, the Club President, awarded the trophies and certificates. Paula also thanked the team of volunteers who helped to put on a successful show.
The winner of “Most Points in Floral Art” was Andrew Dean; Most Outstanding Floral Art was won by Geraldine de Sancha, who also won Best in Show.
Holly Taylor-Shorland won the Youth Floral Art Trophy for eight-11 year-olds and the Brownies’ Cup went to Serena Heard.
Sophie Bailey won the cookery class with her cheese scones and Hannah Frost for her photography. Little Holly Metcalf made a magnificent Hedgehog House.
This was the first year for new show secretary Ann Nixon, who worked unbelievably hard to stage a successful show.
The newly-renovated Parish Hall makes a wonderful venue for such events, and the Flower Club looks forward to its Summer Show on August 5.
The Garden Club’s next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 20 at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall. The Topic will be “Stumperies, ferns and shady friends” and the speaker will be Andrew Tolman, who has worked at Highgrove. Visitors are welcome.
