PLOUGHMEN from across the South West travelled to Barnstaple Cross, Crediton, to compete at Mid Devon Ploughing Association’s annual ploughing match.
There was intense competition in a range of ploughing classes.
The ploughing began at 10am, with competition for vintage trailed, vintage hydraulic, high cut, classic, semi-digger, multi-furrow, reversible and YFC reversible and Fergi T20.
The fields, provided with kind permission of Richard Cheriton and family and Roger Pennington, proved good for the ploughmen.
The competition judges were J Kerslake, A Brewer, L Brewer, P Hammet, A Gale and G Beer.
Chief steward was J Kerslake.
Champion ploughman was Colin Heard from Pancrasweek, near Holsworthy.
Results: Vintage trailed - 1 M Smale, 2 R Heaman, 3 P Stone. Vintage Hydraulic - 1 C Heard, 2 W Voysey, 3 J Hill. High Cut - 1 R Hill. Classic - 1 F Grose, 2 D Jenkins, 3 P Greet, 4 Jacob Roberts. Semi-digger – 1 P Studley. Multi-furrow - 1 A Heywood, 2 A Bigley, 3 T Keast. Multi-furrow – 1 A Heywood, 2 A Bickley, 3 T Keast. Two and three furrow reversible – 1 S Reed, 2 P Pincombe. YFC reversible – 1 Michael Pincombe, 2 Nathan Pincombe, 3 Ben Perryman.
Mid Devon Ploughing Association chairman, Ron Moyse, announced the results and Rosie Cheriton presented the awards.
Mr Moyse thanked all those who took part or helped in any way, those who marked out the field and those who helped arrange the day and Sheila Kerslake for her help with the results and raffle, and the Cheriton family and Roger Pennington for the use of the fields.
