POP ART AND ITS LEGACY
POP Art first burst onto the scene in the mid-20th century, transforming everyday imagery and cultural icons into vibrant works of fine art.
Artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein brought colour, bold lines, and a sense of playfulness into galleries, blurring the boundary between high art and popular culture. Today, Pop Art continues to inspire, its energy and immediacy as powerful as ever.
A LOCAL MASTER OF THE STYLE Here in Crediton, we are fortunate to have our very own Pop Art talent: Colin Frederick Sundborg.
Colin’s work reflects both technical mastery and creative daring. Born with a love for drawing, he pursued art from a young age, studying at Exeter Art College and Cardiff Art College before dedicating his career to painting.

FROM HORSES TO ROCK LEGENDS
Colin’s artistic journey has been wide-ranging. In his early years, he painted horses, family portraits, and motorcycles, gradually focusing on the glamour and power of classic cars and motorbikes - with some of his work even appearing in magazine like “Black Street Heroes”.
More recently, his passion has turned to the vibrant possibilities of Pop Art portraiture, producing striking images of instantly recognisable faces.
Currently, Art plus Frames Gallery at 18 High Street, Crediton is hosting an exhibition of Colin Sundborg’s paintings.
Visitors can see bold, colourful portraits of world-famous figures including Mick Jagger, Sylvester Stallone, John Lennon, David Attenborough, Pablo Picasso, and many more.
Each painting is a unique interpretation, blending Colin’s sharp geometric style with a fearless use of colour. The result is a body of work that is modern, dynamic, and full of life.
