PRESIDENT of Colebrooke Women’s Institute, Valerie Pennington, welcomed members to our October meeting which was held at Colebrooke Parish Hall.  She also welcomed two visitors, Elizabeth and Kim, who had come to our open meeting in September.

Members plus some friends and family enjoyed their trip to Coldridge Church for a talk and tour on the Missing Princes in the Tower, which was followed by lunch in Coldridge Village Hall.

Members also enjoyed the Red Earth Group Meeting, which was hosted by Zeal Monachorum Women’s Institute and was held at Zeal Monachorum Village Hall.

The speaker was Lesley from Heart of Flowers in Okehampton who demonstrated several floral arrangements.

Colebrooke came third in the Competition which was for a Hallowe’en Flower Arrangement (30cm x 30cm) to be displayed in a pumpkin or gourd.

Correspondence was then read out.

We also discussed where we would like to go for our Christmas Meal in December and members agreed they would like to go to The Duck at Yeoford. Valerie will contact The Duck to arrange this.

Our speaker was Rachel Dunn of All Dunn Up who gave us a talk on making hats.

She started making hats in 2015 after she saw a milliner on TV.  She attended various courses in London plus online courses during the Covid lockdown to improve her skills.

She explained the difference between a fascinator, a head piece and a hat and gave us advice on the best way to wear them.  She also brought several hats, head pieces and fascinators for us to try on which members enjoyed doing.

For our meeting in November, Winkleigh Morris will be coming to tell us about Morris Dancing.  For further information, contact Andrea Armstrong on 01363 84198.
