THE West Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme has been busy in Sticklepath and Okehampton over half-term, planting trees and creating wildflower meadows to provide new habitats and boost biodiversity.
On Saturday, October 24, dedicated volunteers joined Parklife (SW) to brave storm Austen and plant a young oak tree donated by a local landowner.
Poor weather prevented them from creating the wildflower meadows, so Parklife (SW) and volunteers returned (with better weather) later to complete the work.
Local volunteers recruited by Sticklepath Parish Council will keep the tree watered, and they will return next year to maintain the new wildlife meadows.
On Friday, October 30, attendees worked to create a new wildlife meadow and plant trees behind the Okehampton Business Centre.
To provide food for pollinators, they sowed seeds and added plants representing 38 wildflower species, including poppies, forget-me-nots, cowslips, ox-eye daisies, marigolds and pansies.
