FOLLOWING in the steadfast and unwavering footsteps of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore - who would have been 101 years old on April 30, the residents of Coldridge Parish donned their stoutest footwear and took to the leafy lanes around Coldridge village on Sunday, May 2 to take part in Captain Tom’s 100 Challenge.

The aim of the Challenge was to complete 100 laps of a two-mile circular walk around the village to raise money for The Captain Tom Foundation which has been set up to ensure that Tom’s inspiring message of hope becomes a lasting legacy.

Fortunately the weather was sunny, if a little chilly, and through their sterling efforts the villagers raised a total sum of £510.10 for the cause.

Special thanks went to two younger members of the parish, Jude and Rory Statham who appropriately made "Rocky Road" slices accompanied by homemade lemonade to refresh the walkers and raised in excess of £50. Thanks, too, to Beryl Meier for a splendid job promoting the raffle.

Local resident Teresa Kendall, who devised and set up the Challenge, said: “It was lovely to hear the sound of chatter and laughter in the village again after such a difficult 12 months with the youngest to the oldest enjoying healthy exercise in the fresh air and raising money for a good cause at the same time.

"It was the perfect opportunity for people from all corners of Coldridge Parish and beyond to meet up and begin to socialise once more in a safe outdoor environment.

"Thank you to everyone who took part and to those who donated - an event thoroughly enjoyed by all.”
