CODS, Crediton’s Operatic and Dramatic Society, thrilled audiences with performances of “Carousel” at Queen Elizabeth’s Lower School campus last week.

The actors told a big story through dance, singing and fine acting, bringing to life one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most endearing musicals.

CODS certainly know how to entertain and every one of the cast put in a lot of effort.

There were many star members of the cast who shone out in their performances.

The lead characters and all involved must be truly proud of what they achieve as a team.

Youth workshops held during the last year by CODS certainly seemed to have attracted a lot of new members and with choreography by Amy Charles of Charles Academy of Dance and some dancers from her classes, the stage was more alive than many previous productions.

The ballet scenes and movement to music was outstanding.

This was Ben Edgecombe’s maiden directorial debut for a CODS musical and it was obvious that he worked incredibly hard and he should be proud of his efforts in bringing it all together.

All the CODS members put on a polished show, CODS aim of staging “First Class Entertainment” for the people of Crediton and the surrounding areas never in doubt.

Allan Fouracre, the musical director, never fails in being note perfect with his fellow musicians.

The outstanding principals, who really are incredible actors and singers, were Buffy May, Mike Canning, Chris Barlow, Heather Barlow, Josh Sanders, Cathy Lamb, Paul Tebbit, Luca Vaccari, Nicola Wood, Jonathan Wood, Penny Daw, Adam Gould and Georgia Steer.

“Carousel” is certainly full of emotion and many a tear was cast by audience members. Saying that, it was full of uplifting singing, incredible acting, joy and amusement, heartstopping moments, expressive acting and dancing.

All involved, including all those backstage or who helped with the production should be proud.

CODS is a credit to Crediton.
