THE 769th Chulmleigh Old Fair went off with a bang right from the start when it was opened by Debbie and Derry Clarke.

The Fair Queen, Harriet, was crowned and she and her faithful helpers worked hard throughout to help make each event special.

Ben Farlam made everyone jump with his reading of the Proclamation in his Town Crier costume and the money scramble and street games started.

During the week, there was a craft fair, country market complete with the “Hummingbirds” singers and a slightly crazy mix of sheep showing and fun and games, flower and produce show, bird of prey display, dog show, horse show, parties and music both inside and outside, sports day, tennis tournament and orienteering.

There were opportunities to show off your fitness in the road race and skills in the clay pigeon shooting.

For a quieter moment you could visit the fascinating Chulmleigh archive or marvel at the
flower display at the congregational church; check out the business windows competition or join the fascinating history trail.

On the last day, there was a particularly well supported
fancy dress show with some incredible entries; the creative side of Chulmleigh really came out. The final street party with food and music outside went well despite the drizzle and many people were still enjoying themselves when the celebrations ended at 11.30pm.

Many thanks to all the volunteer stewards, Old Fair committee and supportive businesses in Chulmleigh who did so much to make this first truly post-pandemic Old Fair go so well.
