CHULMLEIGH Community College has had its most successful Ten Tors year, ever.
The first of the College teams completed the Challenge by 11.05am last Sunday, making them the second fastest team on their route, and the other College teams finished just over an hour later, with around five hours to spare.
However, the College’s successes didn’t stop there, thanks to support offered by the College to other South West schools.
A vacancy at Honiton College was filled by one of Chulmleigh’s Year 10 students.
In line with the true spirit of Ten Tors, the Honiton team finished much later than planned, after abandoning their carefully plotted timeframe in order to provide first aid to another team on the Saturday.
In addition, two more College students, Oscar Sutherland and Toby Dennis, contributed to Ten Tors history when they stepped in to fill two vacancies in Ratcliffe School’s team.
Ratcliffe is a school based in Dawlish for young people with special needs, and with the support of the two Chulmleigh Students, the Ratcliffe team completed the 35 mile route with just seven minutes to spare, making them the first special needs school ever to complete the Ten Tors Challenge.
Michael Johnson, Chulmleigh’s Executive Headteacher, said: “The completion of Ten Tors by our students represented what is best about them. They walked quickly, and demonstrated real teamwork and achieved their goals brilliantly.”
