GCSE OUTCOMES at Chulmleigh College were above the national average for 2026, new data has shown.

The Department for Education has released the first version of the 2026 GCSE results for public access.

The average “Attainment 8” score (average academic performance across eight designated GCSEs) was 46.2 across the country; Chulmleigh College’s score was 53.2.

The percentage of pupils achieving grade five or above in English and maths GCSEs was 46.3 per cent nationally, and 53.3 per cent at Chulmleigh College.

“Everybody at Chulmleigh is delighted by the success of the pupils in 2026,” said Headteacher Neil Payne.

“Although we are used to stand-out results at this school, every year the most important part of what we do is to make sure pupils are ready for the next stage of their education and training and have a complete choice over what they do in the future.

“All of us at Chulmleigh are proud of the vigorous and challenging curriculum that we offer.

“It makes sure pupils have the durability for the next stage of their education as well as an excellent educational base.

“Every pupil leaves Chulmleigh with a broad educational experience, which includes a modern foreign language.

“In this way we believe that we give our pupils every advantage we can and an experience that is just as good (if not better) than they would receive in a private school.

“I would like to thank the staff, trustees, parents and of course the pupils themselves for supporting this vision rooted in strong educational values that has led to the school’s continued success.”

Chulmleigh College is a state secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 16. It is part of the Chulmleigh Academy Trust, which also includes Chulmleigh Primary School, East Worlington Primary School, and St Thomas of Canterbury CofE Primary School in Lapford.
