NORTH Creedy Choral Society will hold its Christmas Concert at Crediton Parish Church on Saturday, December 8 at 7.30pm.
The programme will begin with a mark of respect for the centenary of the First World War with The Last Post and the Benedictus from Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man.
This will be followed by choral movements from Henry Purcell’s Ode on St Celia’s Day. The Ode contains some of Purcell’s most inspired music with a majesty, lyricism and technical mastery anticipating the very best of Handel.
The festival takes place amidst the colourful spectacle of the 77 trees in the Holy Cross Christmas Tree Festival and many popular melodies on this theme are taken up by the Fantasy on Christmas Carols by Vaughan-Williams. There will be other seasonal music and readings, also carols for audience participation to get in the Yuletide mood.
The choir will be accompanied by an instrumental assemble with Ruth Lass as the ‘Cello Soloist and Bob Millington playing the organ.
Jason Bomford and Paul Evans will be the soloists and the conductor, Richard Stephens.
Tickets are £8 for adults and children free. They are available at A E Lee’s Outfitters, in Crediton, from members of the Society or by calling Kay on telephone 01363 772657.
