ON Friday, December 12, the Mid Devon Good Afternoon Choir held its annual Christmas concert with the children from Haywards Primary School, in the Crediton Congregational Church and performed for parents and friends.
After a Christmas Carol, sung by audience and choirs alike, the GAC choir performed their first set of songs, which included Catch a Falling Star, The Rhythm of Life and a selection from Oliver.
It was then the turn of the children from Haywards, who delighted the audience with four very different Christmas songs. These included, In a Stable, Wise Men Wise Men, Angels we have heard on High and Maybe This Christmas.
The children’s choir was led by Mrs Yates. It was clear from the expressions on the faces of the audience that the children’s performance was a real delight.
The second set from the Choir included California Dreaming, and a selection of Christmas songs.
The choir were so pleased to share the concert with the children and really appreciated their efforts. The collection for this year’s charity, Mid Devon Mobility, raised well over £100.
The Choir are indebted to the encouragement and enthusiasm of their musical director Jon Rawles, and the accompaniment of Peter Gilks.
There are well over 30 Good Afternoon Choirs stretching from Penzance all the way through the West Country and beyond. Each choir meets for three 10 week terms throughout the year, and regularly put on concerts.
The Mid Devon Choir meets in the Congregational Church on Monday afternoons from 1pm to 3pm. The choir are always ready to welcome new members.
Looking forward to next year the Choir will be joining together in February for a Big Sing with several other Choirs in Exmouth. Each choir is rehearsing a number of songs to sing together as massed voices.
