ALTHOUGH the original performance, in March, was postponed due to the snow, Cheriton Fitzpaine Parish Hall was packed on Sunday afternoon (April 15) for a Virtuoso Cello Recital with Philip Daish-Handy.
Philip has entertained audiences across the world, and we were thrilled that he, together with pianist Martin Penrose, agreed to come to our small village.
A licensed bar, tea and cakes were all available, provided by the Parish Hall Committee, and a raffle was held for Poughill Hall.
Philip and Martin’s repertoire mostly covered well-known classical pieces, but also some jazz. It included Saint-Saens The Swan and Popper’s Butterfly - a very difficult piece to play.
Earlier in the afternoon, three young ladies attended a “Masterclass”, which they found very helpful.
Thank you to Alison Golby for organising the event, which was greatly enjoyed.
