OUR President, Valerie Pennington, welcomed members to our November Meeting which was held at Colebrooke Parish Hall.

Our speaker for the evening was Mike Neve from South West Ambulance Service who gave us defibrillator training. As well as demonstrating how to use the defibrillator he showed us how to check if the casualty is responsive and breathing. He also showed us how to put a casualty in to the recovery position and how to do CPR.

He explained the difference between Angina, a Heart Attack and a Cardiac Arrest. He told us a Heart Attack is a ‘plumbing’ problem whereas a Cardiac Arrest is an ‘electrical’ problem.

At the end of the evening we each received a Certificate to confirm we had received the training. Hopefully we will never need to use the training but, should the need arise, we will feel more confident in dealing with any situation requiring CPR or the use of a defibrillator.

Our December Meeting will be our Christmas Meal which will be at the New Inn, Sampford Courtenay. For further information please contact Andrea Armstrong on 01363 84198. AA
