A CREDITON gardening expert has been thanked for his skills in brightening up the Town Square.

Bert Jewell, a well-known local garden and flower judge, has filled the Crediton Town Council planters around the Town Square with beautiful flowers and is now preparing to plant around the trees which also surround the square.

Green-fingered Mr Jewell has donated a great deal of time, and many of the plants, free-of-charge, and has been thanked for his contribution to helping the town look a better place.

Bert explained that the planters contain Helichrysum, Verbena, Calibrachoa and Hanging Petunia, to name but a few.

Crediton Town Clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley, said: "I would like to say a huge thank you to Bert for the time and effort he has put into making the Town Square look so beautiful."

She also expressed thanks to the flower tower sponsors this year, Fly Fishing Tackle, Gilbert Stephens, The Three Little Pigs and The Greenhouse.

Mr Jewell has also been confirmed as the judge of the 2015 Crediton Town Council Floral Crediton competition.

Entries are still being accepted for the competition and must be received by Friday, July 3.

Categories are: small formal garden, large formal garden, small managed natural garden, large managed natural garden, family garden and patio or hanging baskets and other outdoor planted containers.
