CREDITON Arts Centre will be re-creating three famous battles in the Town Square when it stages Henry IV and Henry V with six performances from July 5 to 9.

What are the creative challenges? King Henry V advised his soldiers to “Imitate the action of a tiger” when asking them to summon up their fighting spirit once more before attacking Harfleur.

But, if you’re a soldier in a stage production how do you follow his advice?

Battles feature in these Shakespeare history plays; there’s rebels forces eager to wrench the crown from the king; there’s an English army invading France; people on sides fighting for the king, for rebel, for country, for causes, rights and wrongs.

In film and television there are long shots and close ups, extras and armies to play with. So how will the Arts Centre stage battles in the Town Square when it  brings to life those of Shrewsbury, Agincourt and the siege of Harfleur?

To see where these conflicts feature in Shakespeare’s unfolding drama concerning the life and times of  King Henry V go along to the Town Square during the first week of July.

Henry IV will be staged on July 5 and 7 at 7.30pm and on July 9 at 2.30pm, whilst Henry V will be on July 6, 8 and 9 at 7.30pm.

There is a discounted ticket price for anyone wanting to see both plays but to benefit you need to buy either from the Community Bookshop or Sandford Stores – the online booking does not have the facility to discount.
