WINKLEIGH Primary School’s nursery has been given a glowing Ofsted report.

The education watchdog has rated the school’s provision for babies under the age of two as “strong” across six areas.

“Babies thrive in this setting,” Ofsted said after an inspection in July.

“They form positive and caring relationships with staff, and look to them for comfort and reassurance.

“[Staff] have an excellent understanding of children's early development.”

Babies at the nursery “show a curious and inquisitive approach to learning experiences”, make “evident progress”, and “benefit from a constant focus on their language and social skills”, the education watchdog continued.

Leaders also “know babies and their families well” and use this knowledge to “shape an inclusive and ambitious curriculum” in which “all babies are fully included”.

To improve, Ofsted said leaders and governors should “sustain their work to ensure continued improvement and high standards” and share their “knowledge and experience of babies in their wider professional network”.

“This is an enormous achievement and a real credit to the leadership team and the nursery team who have worked tirelessly to establish the provision over the past year, in line with my long-held vision for provision for under-twos.

“This provision is a real asset to Winkleigh and the surrounding community and we are thrilled that this has been recognised by Ofsted.
