ON Wednesday, June 28, Queen Elizabeth’s School students from Years Nine to 13 took part in the annual Expressive Arts Showcase, performing across three disciplines; Dance, Drama and Music.

The collection of work was a culmination of the student’s hard work and commitment across the year.

The evening was compered by the extremely capable Toby Moran-Mylett who took to the stage for one final time, performing a monologue from Abi Morgan’s Lovesong and a duet from Phantom of the Opera, beautifully sung with another Year 13 leaver, Milly Fullwood.

Milly also demonstrated her skills as a dancer and choreographer performing her A2 solo and group piece which thrilled the audience.

She was joined by other Year 13 Dance students, Rebecca Brady whose lively and energetic performance of Alvin Ailey’s “You may run on” left the audience breathless; Hannah Hamilton-Strong, whose Ashtonian ballet solo brought the evening a sense of ethereal magic and Megan Phillips, who not only performed a beautiful ballet solo from La Fille Mal Gardee, but also delighted the audience with an Enesco Flute solo.

Beth Larkman, another A2 Dance student, appeared fresh from a dance lesson to perform her haunting solo based on Sir Kenneth MacmIllan’s Anastasia, leaving the audience spellbound by her emotional portrayal.

Beth is taking up a place at Bird College, London, in September, to study Musical Theatre and Professional Dance, so her’s is a name certainly worth looking out for in the future.

Across the evening students from Year Nine and 10 performed in A level and GCSE choreographies, demonstrating their developing talent which the public is likely to see more of in the next few years.

Georgia Steer, Year 10, and Josie Crosby, Year 12, performed a mesmerising duet choreographed by Year 11 student Abi Sansom, who had been inspired by the poem “Footprints”.

Abi also appeared in Lucy Wallace’s, Year 11, GCSE duet based on an exploration of mental illness.

The whole evening was rounded off by a farewell from Toby, whom QE wish all the best as he embarks upon a course in Theatre Arts at Middlesex University.
