GOOD cream teas with home-made scones saw all the tables filled when Crediton Congregational Church held an afternoon of tea with an exhibition of paintings by local artist, Anthony Martin.

For the tea everything was either home-made or donated by members of the church.

Intended as an afternoon of friendship, it most certainly was that. People were able to talk to Anthony about his work as well.

Trained at Winchester School of Art, he had moved to Crediton from Exeter four years ago.

Anthony said that since lockdown he had really concentrated on painting and drawing as a hobby business and is loving it.

He sells his work in galleries in the South West and will be at Tiverton Craft Fair in October. He works in car valeting in Exeter.

At this show some of Anthony’s work were images from the Hubble telescope which inspired his theological referencing, others he described as “very organic”.

He explained: “In the garden we let bits grow wild and this is what is happening with some of my work.”

Anthony was giving away bookmarks bearing a few of his cosmic ideas as well as selling postcards featuring his work.
