SELLING out of cream teas and with 106 cars parked in the field at one time, the summer fete in aid of ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund) on Saturday (August 14) was one of its most popular events even compared to pre-pandemic days, raising an amazing £2,465.07.
The fete was held in the garden of Shirley House, the home of Paul and Marion Evans, at Copplestone.
A total of 150 cream teas had been catered for but this was not enough. Bunting and green balloons on the main road showed the way to the event.
ELF fundraiser, Andy Jordan, said the charity was “incredibly grateful” for the support ELF had received that day.
He added: “We were delighted with the support. It was a fantastic event with a record number of people attending.”
It was organised by members of the ELF Crediton Fundraisers Group and future events include walks, a quiz night and an October concert.
Andy said the Crediton support group was the only one in Devon, he was looking for volunteers in other parts of the county and would like to see more such fundraising groups set up. Check the ELF website for more information.
Music was provided by the River City Chorus Exeter Ladies A Cappella Choir plus Exmouth Pirates doing their stuff.
Stalls included bric-a-brac, Wilson and Brenda Mitchell’s plants, books, knitted goods, handicrafts, cakes and much more.
