FOR around 15 years, Mike Pratt was the Postmaster at Bow where he and his wife Sally lived for 20 years.
Mike died earlier this summer and in his memory, an afternoon of music is to be held in Bow on August 21 to raise funds for the new recreation ground.
Mike was born in London, going to Africa to do his National Service with the Kenyan police force.
That was where he met Kenyan-born Sally. They married in Kenya and had two children, returning to England for their education.
This brought them to Devon to run an hotel at North Bovey for a while, then renovating a house before a move to Exmouth where they ran a shop on Hulham Road and then to Bow.
Among other posts, Mike became a member of Bow Parish Council and Mid Devon District Council. He loved gardening and was a keen wine maker, winning prizes. Mike had a Degree in Analytic Chemistry.
He loved music, was very fond of opera and played the piano when he had time. Music was very much a part of his and Sally’s life.
One person said of Mike that he would always do his best to help every body. All his life he had been interested in people.
The afternoon at Bow on August 21 will start at 2.30pm for 3pm at Bow Village Hall, organised by the Heart of Devon.
There will be live music from The Tansy Rice Trio with Tom Unwin on keyboard and Rob Phelan on bass.
Donations will be welcomed for Bow Recreational Field, Burston Meadow. For more information, please contact Mick Richards on 01363 82379 or email: [email protected] .
The music will be followed by tea and cakes, all part of celebrating Mike Pratt’s life in Bow.
The music will be a mixture with swing and standards included. Anyone who knew Mike, or who enjoys good music or just sharing a relaxing afternoon would be very welcome to go along.
The afternoon is free, but donations would be welcome for Bow Recreational Field, Burston Meadow.
