THE first monthly meeting of Crediton and District U3A was attended by 90 people.
Crediton Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch gave a moving, funny and entertaining presentation about his life - learning to use his feet to write with a fountain pen, peel potatoes and go to the loo unaided.
His love of language led him into teaching and he was very engaging with U3A members telling them about his career in teaching and his family life. A brilliant speaker for the very first monthly meeting.
The following groups have been organised and will carry on in January. Art group, astrology, church visits, family history, long walks, short walks, music and art appreciation, Spanish, two French groups, grandparents group, and science. Thanks go to those people who have volunteered to help run these groups.
Members of U3A will concentrate on developing more groups at their monthly meetings. A lot of interest has been shown in history, philosophy, bus trips and pub lunches.
A total of 30 members enjoyed a Christmas lunch at the Devonshire Dumpling at Morchard Road with an opportunity to socialise with new faces.
For information on U3A groups please contact Dave Agasee on 01363 775698 or email: [email protected] .
Everyone is welcome to attend the monthly meetings, but if you want to join a group (after two taster sessions) you must be a fully paid up member - for insurance purposes.
Please telephone Lyn Padley on 01363 773504 or email: [email protected] for membership enquiries.
The next monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 20 from 10am to 12noon at the Boniface Centre, Crediton, with Jo de Witt Vine’s “Talk of Bees, Honey and Insects.” Entry is priced at £1.50 and will include unlimited top-ups of tea and coffee.
