THE North Devon Show went ahead with livestock on August 5, although numbers were depleted in some cattle and sheep classes due to concerns about bluetongue.

It was a good day for many exhibitors from the Mid Devon area, many winning some of the top prizes in the livestock classes.

There were also a good array of local exhibitors.

It was a very busy day for the Show President, Grania Phillips from Chulmleigh, who had many duties, including presenting many trophies to exhibitors.

She described it as “a day for everyone to celebrate and enjoy the best in farming and land management in our lovely part of Devon”.

As well as livestock there was a Heavy Horse Village, giant tortoises, pigs, alpacas, donkeys and dogs.

There was an education trail, archery, vintage cars, bikes and tractors, a laser shotgun game and great main ring displays by The Devon Army Cadet Force and Royal Air Force Cadets with a field gun.

Also present were the ACF Corps of Drums before the Grand Parade of Livestock.

There was a circus with performances throughout the day and a wonderful food hall packed with traders displaying and selling fantastic local produce.

An array of agricultural stands with some fine examples of modern agricultural equipment could be seen.

There were axemen, terrier racing, ferret racing, a donkey and cart display, hounds and a giant crafts marquee.

The music stage saw large crowds sit and listen to a wide range of musicians and singers throughout the day.

It was the 60th anniversary of the Show and a new attraction to celebrate this was a Harvest and Home Marquee, where the public could exhibit their talent in a range of classes from cookery to crafts, from painting to floral art and much more.
