THANK you for your article on the upgrades that are being considered for the Parish Church.

The church asks for community letters of support. Here is mine.

I write as a chorister and a trustee of the Crediton Parish Church Music Endowment Fund, although my views are my own.

I have heard water dripping through the roof onto the fitted wardrobes during choir rehearsals in the Lady Chapel.

A new roof, with solar panels, is essential.

Many people in the church have spent years valiantly offering hospitality with inadequate kitchen facilities.

Others battle with unfriendly disability access. We need both.

However I also hope that underfloor heating, through air source heat pumps, will be considered for the following reasons:

Heaters in the church use fossil fuels which are expensive, inadequate and cannot continue. Their heat rises a long way because our church is enormous.

In winter, in the choir stalls and for the congregation / audience, it is cold. Although services continue, concerts avoid winter.

Heat needs to be where the people are.

Our winters will become much harsher when (not if) we lose the warmth of the Gulf Stream. I understand that already currents are slowing,

Crediton's population will need a warm space in winter and a cool space in summer.

Hopefully music, worship, wellbeing and community will continue.
