South West Water is warning nearly 1000 properties around Chagford to boil their tap water this morning (Monday, August 10).

The advisory comes after the company had to deal with with a burst water main over the weekend.

In a statement the company said: “We are advising approximately 900 properties in the Chagford area to boil their tap water. This is a precautionary measure whilst we undertake the necessary checks on the water supply following the complex repair of a burst water main.

“We are contacting affected customers directly and updating them regularly on the situation. A bottled water station is available at Chagford Primary School and we have delivered bottled water to our priority customers.

“We can’t say how long the boil water notice will be in place, but it can usually be lifted after two days of clear results and we therefore expect that customers will be able to use their supplies as normal later this week.”

The company has apologised for the inconvenience caused and have added that they are working hard to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
