THE Best Dressed Shop Window in Crediton this Christmas in the “Crediton Courier” competition, run in association with Crediton Chamber of Commerce, was mens clothes shop, A E Lee (Outfitters) Ltd, of 17 High Street.

The judges, former Mayor of Crediton, Gillian Ponsford, former “Courier” editor, Sue Read, Sean Constable, the "Courier" general manager and Benjamin Evans of Crediton Dairy walked the length and breadth of Crediton’s High Street, Market Street, Pannier Market and North Street to find the winner.

Gillian Ponsford said a lot of hard work had been put into the displays and Benjamin Evans described it as “striking”.

The judges said the A E Lee window included a snowman, Father Christmas and present ideas. Sue Read said that it “had just that bit extra”.

Placed second in the competition was the display in the window of the Hospiscare charity shop, which included a snow scene with a Snow Queen.

The judges described the window as “impressive”.

Placed third was Town and Countrywear by Mole Avon and Highly Commended were Evans Newsagents and Antiques and Vintage.

The judges were full of praise for all those who had decorated windows.

Ben added that “everyone had upped their game this year” and Sue Read said that “there has been a big creative effort”.

Sue Read and Gillian Ponsford agreed that the displays helped to brighten the town and certainly helped to encourage people to shop locally.

Mrs Ponsford added: “The standard was far better in the town this year than ever before.”

She said she was “delighted” that more shops than ever took part this year.

Certificates were presented to the five businesses with the best windows.

Prizes, to third place, were again donated by Alan Quick of the “Crediton Courier”, the administrator of the competition.

The winning entry was awarded the “Crediton Chamber of Commerce” Rose Bowl for the Best Dressed Window.
