TO mark the second anniversary of the death of Jamie Fleming, the young Crediton serviceman who tragically died following a road accident on April 18, 2014, family members, friends and service personnel colleagues will undertake an endurance challenge in aid of charity and in Jamie’s memory.

The volunteers will be doing a charity “Fan Dance”, but it is not what it seems!

There is definitely no dancing involved, the “Fan Dance” is a military timed event in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales.

It involves two trips over the summit of the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons, Pen y Fan, (886m) carrying a 40lb Bergen, belt kit and a weapon with no sling.

The 24 kilometre route is section of the SAS selection route.

Jamie’s father, Stewart, is hoping to do the challenge carrying Jamie’s military day sack, weighing approximately 20lbs.

Also taking part will be Rory (Jamie’s brother), Rachel Edworthy, Jamie’s close friend Steven Pyke and some of Jamie’s Army friends.

Stewart explained: “The event will be supported by Jamie’s ex Commanding Officer, the current Commanding Officer, Officers and men of 14 Signal Regiment (EW).

“My wife Alison belongs to a closed website ‘bereaved military mums’, some of whom will be taking part or supporting the event.

“The charity we will be supporting will be the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), The Soldiers’ Charity. This is a charity, I as a former soldier supported, as did Jamie.”

Stewart added: “We have opened a ‘JustGiving’ page for donations. If anyone wishes to donate to the ABF visit the ‘JustGiving’ webpage and search for Alison Fleming. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.”

The Soldiers’ Charity is the national charity of the British Army.

Jamie served for four and a half years in the Army with The Royal Signals.

Stewart and Rory would like to thank the Woolacott family and staff from Fixauto Mid Devon, Crediton, for generous sponsorship.

If you want to support Stewart and make a donation in memory of Jamie, the Just Giving page is at: https://www.justgiving.com/Alison-Fleming6 .
