FIRE crews and specialist fire officers were called to a suspected gas leak at Crediton Morrisons store at about 5pm today, Wednesday, September 2.

The store was evacuated with staff standing outside while firefighters entered the Mill Street, Crediton, premises.

A Morrisons member of staff stood at the roadside to advise prospective customers that the store was currently closed.

One fire crew left the scene just before 7pm.

• UPDATE at 8pm - Morrisons will remain closed until tomorrow morning.

The leaking valve has been repaired and tests are currently being carried out to ensure the gas levels are safe.

The store apologises to customers and has been advising those who arrive at the store about the situation.
