DEVON and Somerset Fire control received several calls reporting a fire involving a field at Shobrooke near Crediton and mobilised one fire engine from Danes Castle, Exeter at 2.13pm on Tuesday, July 8.

Whilst crews were en-route they requested a further two fire engines and a water bowser to attend due to the volume of smoke seen.

The fire engines were sent from Crediton and Middlemoor, Exeter with the water bowser attending from Danes Castle, Exeter.

The final details were confirmed at 3.35pm as a field measuring approximately 300 metres by 700 metres used for standing crops. The fire was extinguished by crews using three hose reel jets, one attack jet and four beaters.

Approximately 30 per cent of the field was damaged by fire.
