FIREFIGHTERS at Crediton heard the latest news from Cllr Nick Way and East Devon Group Commander Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Daren Cripps at the start of this week’s training session at Crediton.

Devon County Council member Cllr Nick Way is a member of Devon and Somerset Fire Authority which has taken away one fire engine from Crediton but added a 4x4 response vehicle.

Cllr Way gave a brief outline of the latest situation, saying he had put forward an amendment at the recent meeting on the future of Devon’s fire station. This had been lost but the Chief had said a second fire vehicle with a 200-gallon water tank “might be available” at Crediton.

Cllr Way had since been told this vehicle would come to Crediton. “Although it is probably not the perfect result, it is encouraging,” he commented.

“The good thing is that the Authority has made this promise that we shall have this second vehicle. I know a lot of people in the town will be happier. Details still have to be sorted,” he added.

He and Mr Cripps answered a number of questions from the Crediton firefighters.
