THE people of Crediton are being asked to help contribute to an unusual project, to make a fort out of 3,000 cardboard boxes in the town’s Newcombes Meadow.

Crediton filmmaker Dom Lee (25) is looking for people to donate the vast number of boxes, wants some venues to store them and volunteers who will help build the giant fort as part of a new film project.

On Saturday, August 6, Dom, who has obtained permission from Mid Devon District Council to build a box fort in the park, will also be filming it to appear in the 15-minute film he intends to release in 2017.

He explained that the film’s plot revolves around a young boy, who, with the help of his father and people from the local community, honour his dying mother by building her dream cardboard box fort.

Dom explained: “The goal is to enter the film into film festivals around the world, but hopefully with a few screenings around Devon as well.

“The event relies on good weather so would be postponed to another date if rain was forecast.

“Once the event is over, most boxes would be recycled but I’m hoping to get children from local primary schools to decorate a few of them and so they’re welcome to take them as hopefully it will be a little piece of film history.

“I’m going to ask local businesses if I can take their spare cardboard boxes instead of them being sent for recycling.

“In the near future I’ll also begin collecting boxes off anyone who no longer has need for them.”

In addition, Dom is looking for people to play the lead roles in the film.

He added: “I’m going to begin the casting process for the soon.

“The main roles are James (10) and his mum and dad (aged in their 30’s), so for anyone who might be interested look out for further details in the near future.

Anyone who would be interested in taking a more active role in planning the event, helping on the day as a marshal or would just like further information on the project, then please email me for more information at: [email protected] .

Dom has also launched “Fortboxfilm” on “Facebook” and @FortBoxFilm on “Twitter”, where people can find out more details.
