MID Devon District Councillors have deferred the plan for 185 homes at Wellparks, Crediton, submitted by The Downes Estate and Waddeton Park Ltd.

Cllr Nick Way, shortly after Mid Devon's meeting on Wednesday, said: "I am pleased to say that colleagues have deferred the plan.

"We had concerns about crossing points in Exeter Road and suggest that they should be improved.

"It was agreed to have a meeting with planning officers concerning this crossing.

"In addition, it was felt that up to 800 people could move into the new homes and this makes having proper access very important, not only to the railway station and Tesco but also to improve the East Street crossing to enable children to walk safely to Hayward's School.

"The crossing needs to be safe as some children are likely to be unaccompanied.

"It is good news that the concerns have been listened to."
