A CREDITON Councillor has called fly tipping of asbestos near Crediton “a flagrant and disgraceful act”.
Councillor John Downes, a Mid Devon District Councillor for Crediton and also a Crediton Town Councillor explained: “I came across some illegal fly tipping of asbestos while walking my dog on a farm track off the Hookway Road which is also a public footpath.
“I contacted Mid Devon District Council who immediately examined the waste and have contracted a specialist contractor to dispose of it.
“Obviously, this is a flagrant disgraceful act is reprehensible.
“The disposal of hazardous waste in this manner shows a complete disregard for public safety and the environment. Asbestos can pose serious health risks if disturbed, making prompt reporting essential.
“If members of the public come across fly-tipping of any nature they can report it. In my experience, Mid Devon District Council are quick to respond, especially if it is hazardous.”
