SPREYTON'S swimming champion who received a kidney transplant 17 years ago has returned from the eighth European Transplant Games with six medals. Wendy Sincock, who had her own hair salon at Spreyton until recently, said: "Hundreds of people were in the Old Square at Krakow in Poland to watch our parade of Transplant Athletes. It was amazing. "The UK team took 13 competitors and returned with 38 medals in swimming, cycling, and track and field." Wendy came back with one gold, three silver and two bronze medals won in the 4 x 50 medley and the freestyle relay. Always an active and sporty person, Wendy swam in her first British Transplant Games a mere eight months after her transplant when she won three medals. She has competed every year since, apart from one year. This was her second year competing in the European which is held every other year, as are the World Transplant Games in which Wendy has competed since 2001. Manager of the Exeter and District Kidney Transplant Games team, Wendy wishes more people who have had a kidney transplant would join them. "We know there are more people in the Exeter area who have had a kidney transplant and it would be such a shame if our team had to close because there were not enough people," she said. There are 10,000 people on the list for a life-saving transplant. To join the Organ Donor Register and help save lives please text SAVE to 62323 or telephone 0300 123 2323.
