THE Crediton Chargers Basketball Club finished 2013 on a high with their last two results being wins over two very different teams.
They secured a comfortable victory over Exeter College on December 15. With an advantage of size over the much smaller College side, the Chargers used the height of their three tallest players (7ft 3, 6ft 7 and 6ft 6) as a major advantage to take the lead early and hold it throughout the match.
There were solid performances from the whole of the Crediton squad, notably Mike Lewis who finished the game with 32 points.
The Chargers next opponents were Exmouth Jesters One, who totally dominated the Chargers early in the season with a 36 – 74 win.
Not wanting to repeat the previous exchange, the Chargers went on to the fixture on December 20 with confidence and determination.
Exmouth were facing a new and revitalised Chargers team who were quick to get started and soon found themselves 15 points ahead after the first quarter.
Stand out performances from Josh Williams-Clifford and Mike Lewis took the game to Exmouth who struggled to find any notable reply.
The Jesters had a short run in the third quarter but the Chargers ran out comfortable winners with a 53 – 74 win making it a 59 point turn around over the two games.
The Chargers have also received a generous sponsorship from the owners of CC Haulage of Colebrooke, which has contributed to the cost of the club's new kit.
The club committee would to thank CC Haulage for their involvement in kick-starting the Chargers current success in the Exeter and District Basketball League.
