TWO charities, Devon Air Ambulance Trust and Farming Community Network, will share more than £3,000 between then, thanks to darts teams from local pubs and the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface.

A total of 17 teams from 12 pubs in the Crediton area took part in the Boniface Rotary Club of Crediton 2014 Darts Marathon.

The darts players and teams were sponsored or raised funds during the two-hour marathon held at the 12 pubs on Monday, February 17.

Each team consisted of six players throwing darts continuously for the two hours, with scorers and timekeepers from the Rotary Club.

Men's champion team was The King's Arms, Crediton, with a score of 61,541. Ladies champion team was The Cross Hotel, Copplestone with a score of 49,727 and Mixed champion team, The Mitre, Crediton, with a score of 49,941.

Some of the pub teams raised fantastic sums for the charities: The Red Lion, Tedburn £551 (one team), The Waie Inn, Zeal Monachorum £544 (three teams), The Cross Hotel £442 (three teams), Potters Bar, Crediton £432 (one team) and The London Inn, Morchard Bishop £360 (one team).

In total, £3,012 was raised and the money was presented to representatives from the respective charities at a presentation evening held at Potters Bar.

Roger Pennington, president, Boniface Rotary Club of Crediton, presented the funds to the charities and certificates to the pub teams who won awards or raised most money.

The Red Lion received the award for being the pub raising most money and Potters Bar received an award for the greatest sponsorship achievement in the past three years of the darts marathon.

Commemorative certificates went to all the teams and pubs which took part.

Rotarian Mr Pennington said: "'Thank you' to every darts player and to all the pub owners and their staff who have contributed so brilliantly to a highly enjoyable night and a great result for charity fundraising.

"Our warmest thanks go to all of you for raising such a wonderful sum of money for charity."
