CREDITON Youth FC were very proud to have three sides make it through to the league cup semi finals, an achievement that probably had not arisen for a number of years.
Unfortunately, the U13’s were narrowly edged out 3-2, last Thursday night (March 24) at Willand FC by Culm Sampford Wildcats.
Losing goal keeper Ollie Harris before the game to illness was a massive blow to the side.
Culm Sampford went into the half-time break 2-0 up.
After a strong team talk the Creddy lads got back to two each in the second half, with goals from Hayden Leach and Rhys Ebdy. But a penalty in the last five minutes saw the opposition make it through to the final.
The U12’s quest for the league and cup double is still alive, as they made it through to the final by beating Twyford Spartans away 2-0.
Both goals came from headers by Seb Roche, courtesy of pinpoint crosses from Jake Stagg.
The U10’s giant-killing cup-run came to an end at Alphington.
It was goalless at half-time, with Crediton unlucky not to have been in front. The second half saw the home side go one up, but a headed goal from Jayden Saunders got the Crediton lads back into the game.
Unfortunately a long range effort saw the Exeter side go 2-1 ahead, and a then a late third, saw the Crediton cup-run come to a end.
It’s been a great adventure for the side of which their coaches are immensely proud.
The U16’s return to action did not go as planned as they went down 3-0 away at Culm Sampford.
It was another game of two halves for the U14’s.
They went into half-time 1-0 up at home against Alphington but the game finished 5-2 to the visitors.
The home side’s goals came from Charlie Cookson and Alfie Poole.
The U11’s were really pleased with their 2-1 home win victory over Brixington.
On target for them were Hayden Richardson Miller with a clever chip over the keeper and a long range effort from Josh Poole.
Away at Okehampton were the U8’s.
Two wins, one draw and a defeat for them.
Man of the match for each side were Archie Short and Fabien Ashton for their excellent performances.
The morning finished off with sausage and chips in the Okehampton clubhouse afterwards.
The afternoon of Saturday, March 26 saw the club’s girls section travel into St James Park to watch the Exeter City take on Stevenage.
Over 70 players, coaches and family members enjoyed the game and saw City grab another three valuable points with a 2-1 win.
Sunday saw another win for the U11 girls at Lords Meadow over Stoke Hill. Amongst their goal scorers were Eva, Gracie Clements and Lexi Mullen. Player of the match went to Lucy Budd for another strong performance.
It was a great day for the U9 girls as they returned from Torquay with a great victory. It was an all round great team performance, demonstrating just how much the girls are improving each game. It was hat-tricks from both Eva Malik and Sophie Trenaman which set them up nicely.
