LIZ Smerdon and Nikki Payne recently represented Devon in the Walker Cup. The team consists of the top eight ladies in Devon, so it is a credit to the standard of bowling on show at Newcombes Meadow that two of the team should come from Crediton Bowling Club.

They beat Gloucestershire 45-25 but were unfortunately then defeated by Worcestershire by four shots.

Following on from Anne Sullivan’s success the ladies teams are storming through to finals themselves.

They had a Top Club fixture at Topsham and they are through to the finals of the Tony Alcock competition after defeating Madeira 38-20.

The Ladies Inter Club played Barnstaple at Hatherleigh on Wednesday, June 28 so many Club members are currently having very busy weeks.

Not to be outdone the men are keeping the winning ways going too.

In the National Top Club they had a magnificent win against Culm Vale in the Devon semi-finals and will now play Shaldon in the final needing one point from a possible eight to top the group.

Richard Ellis and Gary Morphett have joined Rob Paxton and Gary Ayley in the last 16 of the Section Four Pairs, but unfortunately the Men’s Two Fours lost 39-28 to Barnstaple United Services in the semi-final.

In the Exeter Over 60’s League there was an impressive 8-0 victory for the A team over Pinces A and they have maintained their second position in the league.

The B team and C team continue to be fourth in their respective leagues despite the B team losing 6-2 to Pinces B and the C team losing to Ottery St Mary C by the same score.

Crediton had a very impressive 92-45 victory following on from a narrow defeat by Combe Martin of 104-98 the previous day.

One of the highlights of the coming week is this morning (Thursday, June 29) at 10.30am when Liz Smerdon takes on Lyn Parker from United Services in the next round of the Ladies Champion of Champions competition.
