A GROUP of cyclists from Sandford Syclepaths will be taking up the challenge to cycle 133 miles from Exeter to Land’s End in support of Bowel Cancer West.

The Syclepaths are a group of fine(ish) athletes who formed a "Facebook" group page to share and suggest routes, to allow others to know each others plans and to arrange regular outings.

All budding cyclists are invited to join the group and from humble beginnings they have attracted 106 members. From those, at least 14 will be taking part in the challenge on May 27, with two full teams of six having entered.

Those teams of six are: Mike Edworthy, Paul Burrow, Simon Fowler, Paul Miller, Mark Bowen, Alan Smith, Steve Head, Andrew Haydon, Phil Stamp, Andy Snell, Ethan Snell and Chris O’Connor.

For five of these cyclists this will be the second time they have taken part, with a favourable wind and conditions it will be a very enjoyable way to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause.

The Syclepaths are delighted to support Sgt Owen Messenger and his magnificent team from Devon & Cornwall Police in their support of Bowel Cancer West.

This is their story...

"Kelly Stabb has always considered herself to be relatively fit and healthy but in 2017 she was given the devastating news that she had advanced stage four bowel cancer. Kelly underwent emergency surgery and chemotherapy and her treatment will continue into 2018.

She has an overwhelming feeling to give something back to those who are researching and developing the cancer treatment that is saving her life. As such she has set herself the goal of raising £10,000 for the charity Bowel Cancer West.

To raise money Kelly intends to run the Edinburgh marathon with her husband on the same day as the ride and is organising a charity ball and other fundraising events.

Bowel Cancer West have been an incredible support to Kelly and we want to raise as much money as possible in order to help them support Kelly and others."
