FROM primary school children taking their first strides, to seasoned runners chasing a personal best, Exeter City Community Trust is expanding its running programme to ensure there is something for everyone – with two new events confirmed for 2026.
The organisation, which has seen growing numbers at its running events, the majority of which take place on paths alongside the River Exe, has introduced a new autumn half marathon and a shorter distance event designed for children and young people.
The Grecian Mile – a non-competitive, untimed event – takes place on Friday, June 26 as part of the Exeter 10k River Run. Entrants must be aged under 16, with children under 10 accompanied by an adult. All finishers receive a medal.
And following increased demand for its spring half marathon, Exeter City Community Trust, which is the partner charity of Exeter City Football Club, has launched its new Autumn Half Marathon and Five Miles, taking place on Sunday, September 13.
Jamie Vittles, Chief Executive of Exeter City Community Trust, said: "We're pleased to be able to offer these two new events, which meet increasing demand from our community. Part of our mission as a charity is to provide opportunities for people to take part in activities, whatever their age and ability.
"We know that introducing healthy habits from an early age brings benefits in later life, so establishing the Grecian Mile is something we're proud to be doing."
Jamie added: "The paths alongside the River Exe and through the Riverside Valley Park offer some of the best running environments in the region. We've been overwhelmed with entries for our spring half marathon, so it made sense to introduce a second event at that distance – which is also ideal for those training for an autumn marathon."
