EXPERIENCED and new runners are invited to take part in a memorial challenge, over either a three-mile or 9.6 mile route, next month. The organiser, Ray Dohoo, explained: "My wife, Bridget Dohoo, passed away at the Exeter Hospice run by Hospiscare, Exeter, in February 2013. "She was a keen runner and inspired others to run as well. "In memory of Bridget there is an inaugural run taking place in Lapford called the 'Bridget Dohoo Memorial Challenge' on Sunday, September 14, and all funds raised will be going directly to Hospiscare, Exeter, to help them to continue to provide the care and support that they excel at for both patients and families." Ray explained that the three-mile road race will be challenging but, at the same time, has some very nice scenery on route. He said it will include one water station. Ray continued: "The 9.6 mile run is a challenge with some very some very steep hills in the middle with plenty of down hills to recover and lots of very nice scenery on route. "Not for the faint-hearted, there will be three water stations on the longer run." The 9.6 mile race will be limited to 150 entries and the cost is £12 for unaffiliated runners and £10 for affiliated runners. The three mile run costs are £10 or £8 and the race is limited to 100 entries. Prizes will be awarded and all taking part will receive a medal. The event is to be held under UKA Rules. Race headquarters will be at Lapford School and the event will be sign posted on the day. Those who take part are asked to turn up early to pick up their bib numbers and registration will close at 10.30am with the races beginning at 11am. There will also be a children's fun run at 10am, admission £3. There will be tea, coffee and cakes available and there will be a raffle.
