TOPSHAM RFC 50-17 CREDITON RFC 2ND XV
WE endured a difficult first half against a well-organised Topsham side, who moved the ball effectively and made the most of the space out wide. Their attacking play was rewarded with several tries as they took control of the contest early on.
Despite spending much of the opening period under pressure, we showed resilience and managed to get on the scoresheet after a series of determined close-range pick-and-goes, eventually forcing our way over the line for a well-deserved try.
The second half told a very different story. We raised their intensity and produced a far more balanced performance, matching Topsham with two tries apiece after the break. A strong scrum proved to be a key platform, giving the forwards control and providing quality front-foot ball for the backs to attack from.
Playing to our strengths, we finished the game strongly, showing greater composure and physicality as the match progressed. While the first half ultimately proved costly, there were plenty of positives to take from an impressive second-half display that demonstrated the character and potential within the side.
Scorers: Tries – Ben Baxter, Jake Kibbey, Chris Hooper; Conversion – Jake Kibbey.
