CREDITON RFC 2ND XV 56-24 DARTMOUTH RFC 1ST XV
THE 2nd XV welcomed Dartmouth to Blagdon on Saturday and, although league points had been forfeited by our opponents, both clubs did a great job to get the game on.
Huge credit must be given to Dartmouth who travelled despite having only 11 players. With the late cancellation of our 3rd XV fixture and in the best tradition of our sport, a handful of Kirton lads stepped in to make up the numbers ensuring a proper contest could go ahead.
Throughout the game, Dartmouth showed huge heart and never took a backward step. They created pressure when they had ball in hand, and crossed for a couple of well-worked tries that were thoroughly deserved.
Our lads though were well-drilled and played some fantastic rugby at times. Forwards and backs linked up superbly and kept the tempo high resulting in some excellent team tries.
In the end, we came out on top but the scoreline was secondary to the spirit on display. What mattered most was that both sides came together to make sure a game was played.
It was a brilliant afternoon of rugby built on teamwork, respect, and the willingness of players to muck in for the love of the sport.
A huge thank you to Dartmouth for travelling and to the 3rd XV lads who stepped up. Rugby at its best.
Scorers – Tries: B Baxter (3), Hooper (2), Rowe, S Ronchetti. Cons: G Baxter (5), T Ronchetti (2).
