NORTH Tawton RFC travelled to Salcombe for their next round match in the Papa Johns Cup but alas as the score suggests, they were roundly beaten by a very determined home side who, although they went in at half time 7-12 down, came out in the second half to score five unanswered tries.

The first 25 minutes were pretty even, the score remaining nil-nil but it was Tawton who broke the dead lock with a try from Luke Jenkins, missed kick, its 0-5.

This was followed up by another try, this time from Stuart Bennie, with the conversion, its 0-12 and at this stage it felt like Tawton were in control.

Some poor defending by the Tawts let Salcombe in right on half time, taking the break 7-12.

North Tawton suffered a few niggling injuries and with no disrespect to the replacements the change of personal seemed to affect the balance maybe more than it should have.

With the home team with their tails up Tawton sort of drifted out of the game, a defence that has been good all season, let in five tries, say no more, to be frank the referees whistle was a blessed relief.

The Salcome players celebrating their 34-12 win.

It would be harsh/krass to judge the North Tawton season on this match as the thoughts turn to next season.

The club can look back on a very good season helped by a group of players who play for each other and have given us some really good rugby to watch some in the hard working grunt department and some in the stylish department.

As the season went on the Tawts became a very hard team to beat home or away, they await big decisions by the powers that be as to what league and what make up they participate in next year.
