A TAG Rugby team from Lapford Primary School, along with one from East Worlington, attended the small school’s North Devon Tag Rugby Tournament on May 22 in Barnstaple and WON!

The school is incredibly proud of the team and thank Rich Yendall for his expert coaching.

There was an extra celebration as the school’s very own Caitlin won the “girl of the tournament” award - an absolutely amazing achievement.

Thanks go to all who supported and helped out.

Comments from some of the children following the tournament included:

“My best bit was when we realised that all the girls in our team had to play every match.” Emily.

“It’s all thanks to our coach Rich!” Jacob.

“Our hardest match was in the quarter-finals against Westbury. There were some very good players and lots of tries were scored but luckily in the end we won 6-4.” Jamie.

“I think possibly one of the best players was a girl from Monkleigh Primary, she was really quick and good at tagging.” Charlie.

“My happy part was when I came fifth in the kicking contest.” Oliver.

“My favourite part was when I scored the first try and the referee did the Floss!” Lewis.

“The best bit for me was when we won because everyone was really proud and we felt very happy!” Kitty.
