EXETER SARACENS 5 - NORTH TAWTON 77
ON a bitterly cold but sunny afternoon at the Exeter Arena, North Tawton really turned up the heat on the Exeter Saracens, running up a 13-try feast and total of 77 points to come away very comfortable winners.
This was the Tawts second visit to the home of the Sarries this season having had a good win in a cup match a few weeks ago.
While I am sure travelling support was confident of an another good result I think its fair to say nobody was expecting, least of all the home team a score like this.
I am still not sure whether North Tawton were that good or Saracens were that bad, it was just such a one-sided hammering with the Tawts running tries in almost at will, seemingly taking it in turns to score.
You have got to remember that while North Tawton sit top of the league, Saracens are in third so it should have proved to be a lot sterner test.
In truth they had no answer to a rampant Tawton side who, quite rightly, fear nobody in this league and on this performance the league above either.
There was another lead from the front or should I say wing from the captain, Craig Dennis, who made three tries.
He was joined by Gary Sizmur and Jordan Cornthwaite on three a-piece.
James Bowden, Alex Dennis, Matt Baker and a well-deserved first try for the club by Dan Quinn gave us the total of 13.
Add six conversions either by JB or GS and you get 77 I hope!
In truth they were scoring faster than I could confirm and write it down.
With a lot of the matches called off because of the weather quite a few of next week’s opposition in the shape of Buckfast Ramblers called in to "say hello”.
There were one or two frowns on the faces on the way out I think they, like the rest of the onlookers.
They had seen a North Tawton side secure the bonus point in 15 minutes and still not take their foot of the gas, bring it on.
Two players this week for Man of the Match, you can’t split them said the coaching staff.
Matty Dennis and Jordan Cornthwaite share the honour. You always get full commitment from both players.
Away to Buckfastleigh next weekend.
