CREDITON Freemasons attended a recent training session for Crediton RFC Women to present them with a cheque for £300 to purchase two crash mats.

Members of Crediton Unity Lodge, Peter Howison and Peter Coleman, the Lodge’s Charity Steward, made the presentation to the Women’s team captain Rachel Mortimer.

Jen Mortimer, from Crediton RFC Women, thanked the Freemasons for their support.

Reflecting on last season, Jen said: “Crediton Women had another successful season in NC1 under captain Rachel Mortimer and Vice captain Michelle Greedy.

“A home Women’s Rugby World Cup resulted in several new players attending training, some looking for non contact fun and others more serious rugby.

“Michelles commitment to running the T1 programme has allowed us to introduce new players to rugby, without them having to play full contact.

“The Women had several noticeable away wins, including a well fought game at Hornets and edging a tight battle away to Winscombe.

“An unfortunate defeat to a strong Penryn side in our final game relegated us to 5th.”

Talking about next season, Jen, said: “This coming season, we are lucky to welcome Shaun Clarke to the coaching set up, alongside Kev Ellis.

“Most of you will know Shaun, as he has coached at the club for several years.

“We are extremely excited to have him on board, having witnessed his success with numerous junior and colt sides at Crediton RFC.

“We are delighted to have a handful of girls coming up from the Junior section to bolster the team.

“With Rachel and Michelle continuing as captain and vice-captain, we're excited to build on the success of last season and look ahead to another successful year together, we have a great mixture of youth and more experienced players but are always looking for new players whether its non contact in the T1 or the fun and camaraderie of the league team.”
