CREDITON RFC WOMEN 40-10 AVONMOUTH
CREDITON Women opened their inaugural match against Avonmouth with a solid performance on a cold, crisp afternoon on Sunday, November 23.
Played on a soft pitch, the team approached the game with a mix of cautious optimism and determination, mindful of the unfamiliar opposition.
Crediton took an early lead when Holly Keast crossed the line for the first try, with Katie successfully converting.
Avonmouth responded with their only try of the first half, but Crediton’s disciplined play, aided by multiple penalties awarded against Avonmouth, kept them in control.
Ellen and Emma both scored tries before halftime, with Katie adding two conversions, giving Crediton a 21-5 advantage at the break.
The second half saw conditions worsen with a rain shower, adding to the intensity of the match.
Avonmouth quickly responded with a try, though they failed to convert.
Crediton’s Libby and Sarah then scored tries, both converted by Caitlin in the absence of Katie, who had to leave the game due to injury.
The match was marked by frequent stoppages due to injuries, disrupting the flow of play and leading to extended periods of inactivity in the cold weather.
The team suffered significant setbacks, including losing their scrum-half to a fracture and two front-row players with muscle strains and knee injuries.
Despite the physical challenges, Crediton Women held on to secure a 40-10 victory in their first-ever match against Avonmouth.
The forward of the match was Michelle Greedy, and the back of the match Megan Higgins.
In Crediton Women’s last match on Sunday, November 9, they lost out 51-24 to league leaders Yeovil. They showed remarkable determination and teamwork despite the defeat.
They beat local rivals Okehampton 34-14 on Sunday, October 26, in a dominant display.
