TWO long-serving members of Crediton Rugby Club have been honoured.
On Saturday, October 17, Bernie Blatchford and Paul Harris, who have since retired from the club’s committee and several roles, were recognised for their hard work and commitment.
Vice chair Liz Goodman presented Bernie and Paul Harris with engraved glass mementos for Outstanding Service to Crediton RFC.
Liz described how Paul joined the club in 1968 before joining the committee in 1972.
He has served two stints and chairman and was also club president.
Paul also served as Fixture Secretary, Advertising and Sponsorship Officer, Press Officer and font of all knowledge on the RFU Game Management System.
Paul has also been a member of the Devon RFC Committee.
Bernie was a fine No 8 for the club, scoring the most points (345) in a season during 1979/1980.
He was Club Captain in 1982 and went on to have success coaching the Colts and then the Senior teams.
He also coached Devon and South West Colts. Bernie has overseen the kit and equipment requirements for the club and has also made sure that the beer that flows on a Saturday is the best in town!
Noting that behind these good men were two great women, Hilary Harris and Yvonne Blatchford were presented with a bouquet for their part in the enthusiasm, loyalty, hard work and commitment.
